Today, on September 1 , 2021, commemoration ceremony was held at Westerplatte.
Archaeologists from the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, during a two-month-long archaeological excavation, have unveiled relics from the guardhouse number 5. The exact location and condition of this building, very important to the history of the Military Transit Depot and the heroic defense of Westerplatte in September 1939, have not until today’s finds been certain.

On Saturday, May 15th, in the foyer on level -2, a temporary exhibition ‘Tadeusz Pietrzykowski - a warrior with the artist's soul’ will be on show.
On Friday, May 7th, the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk will reopen to visitors. The exhibitions will be made available to visitors in compliance with sanitary regulations, in accordance with the functions carried out as part of the # M2WS Bezpiecznie campaign.
The Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk (exhibitions, cinema, library) will remain closed to visitors until further notice

On the 8th of April 1917 was born Tadeusz Pietrzykowski a.k.a. “Teddy” – Polish boxer, trainer, physical education teacher, one of the first prisoners of the Auschwitz German concentration camp, and since 1943 also of Neuengamme concentration camp and Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. He went down in history not only as a famous boxer fighting for his life in Auschwitz.
On April 6th, 2017, according to a decision made by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, prof. Piotr Gliński, a new cultural institution was established under the name of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, combining the museum of the same name, which had existed since 2008 with the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939. For the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, this has been a period of hard work, including implementation of numerous projects and development on many levels.
