At 4:30 p.m. as part of the 82nd anniversary of the outbreak of World War II at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, acting director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, dr hab. Grzegorz Berendt and the president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki gave a presentation entitled "The progress of work on the construction of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939." During the presentation, the program and targets of the investment were laid out, and the work to date on the construction of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 was summarized. In addition, the first speaker Dr. Karol Nawrocki, emphasized the importance of Westerplatte as the exact location where where World War II began. He emphasized the importance that this should be remembered, and underlined this as the main purpose of the currently under construction Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939. The President of the Institute of National Remembrance also drew the attention of the audience to the fact that the concept of the museum was not born until 2017. Dr. Karol Nawrocki also emphasized the importance of the project being attractive not only for domestic guests, but also for foreign tourists, while also maintaining particular respect for the location as a place of remembrance. 

 

The acting director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, dr hab. Grzegorz Berendt drew attention to the individual activities that are currently being carried out by a team of experts in connection with the planned project and he also outlined the next stages of work planned for 2021 and 2022, including the more conceptual work on the exhibition under preparation.

 

The whole event ended with a screening of a film dedicated to Ignacy Zatorski.
