The first issue of the periodical came out in 2019, that is on the 80th Anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The main aim of the periodical was and still is the creation of a certain platform for scholars that enables them to publish research results concerning the genesis, course and consequences of World War II. Another motivation behind its establishment was the desire to create space of discourse about the memory of World War II. The pages of War and Rembrance as a periodical issued by a museum institution were also given to museologists and other persons interested in the issues of gathering and preserving relics, collections and documentary evidence concerning the history of the last global conflict.

The columns of our periodical are open to texts that are treatises and articles as well as to editions of sources, witnesses’ accounts, reviews and conference reports. We admit texts written in Polish and congress languages.

The periodical "War and Remembrance," in accordance with the appendix to the Announcement of the Minister of Science of 5 January 2024 on the list of scientific journals, is included in the list of scored periodicals. There are 20 points awarded for publication in the periodical.

In accordance with the announcement, the 5th issue (2023) of "War and Remembrance" is entitled to the points included in the list of journals in the Announcement of the Minister of Education and Science of 17 July 2023 – 140 points.
 

From 2023 "War and Remembrance" articles are published on an open access basis.

Since September 2024, the periodical has been indexed in the Index Copernicus International database of scientific journals, with a score of 67.14 for 2023.
