SIGNING THE CONTRACT WITH THE CONTRACTOR FOR THE MODERNIZATION OF THE FORMER POWER PLANT, TOGETHER WITH LAND DEVELOPMENT ON WESTERPLATTE

The contract for the modernization of the former power plant building along with land development on plots no. 3/5, 68 and 25/2 on Westerplatte has been signed. The agreement concluded between the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk and a consortium of companies: Kamaro sp. Zo.o. sp. k. and Sobin sp.z o.o. covers activities as part of the investment to build the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 in Gdańsk.

The subject of the contract is the reconstruction of the former power plant building, converting its use for museum purposes, including a permanent exhibition planned at the facility. Construction work will be aimed at improvement of the technical and aesthetic conditions of the building and its immediate surroundings. As part of the contract, there will also be temporary infrastructure for office and administrative pruposes. The investment also provides for a change in the land development around the former power plant - the surface areas will be changed and necessary technical infrastructure built, including lighting and monitoring. The work is scheduled to be completed by October 2023.

On behalf of the Museum of the Second World War - the main investor in the construction of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 - the contract was signed by the director of the Museum of the Second World War, dr hab. Grzegorz Berendt, professor at the University of Gdansk, who said about today's event:

"Signing this contract for construction works at the site of the former power plant is another step closer to the implementation of an extremely important project for the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk; the construction of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 - a branch of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk. This is a special event, because it is in this building that for the first time there will be a comprehensive exhibition, covering the story of the place where the bloodiest to date armed conflict in the history of mankind began, a conflictwhich touched the Polish nation in a very deep way. This will also be a unique place, because it will be in the interior of the former power plant, and the exhibition will feature never-before-seen relics unearthed on archaeological sites related to the Military Transit Depot on Westerplatte, disvovered by a team of MSSW archaeologists during archaeological excavations successively carried out on the peninsula”.

On the part of the contractor, the document was signed by Radosław Tomczykowski as the president of the board of Sobin sp.z o.o.
