On the evening of 1 September, the President of the Republic of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, his wife, and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Joachim Gauck attended a special show of film and multimedia performance “The Explosion” by Andrzej Wajda, produced by the Museum of the Second World War.
That evening, a special film and multimedia performance “The Explosion” took place. It was produced by the Museum of the Second World War in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War. Participating in the event were: President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski, President of Germany Joachim Gauck and Polish and German teenagers.
The Director of the Museum of the Second World War Prof. Paweł Machcewicz welcomed the audience with the words, “The performance combines film, multimedia show and video mapping. It presents the history of Poland and Europe at its most dramatic moment as well as the most difficult moment in the history of Polish-German relationships the memories of which are still painful and vivid.” The Professor underlined that Poles are conscious of efforts put into Polish-German reconciliation over the last ten years and appreciate it. “It is a reconciliation which does not neglect history; on the contrary, it transforms the dialogue with the past into its major force of compromise,” he said. Director Machcewicz stated that the presence of both presidents is, “another chapter in the Polish-German dialogue whose important part is a reflection on even the most difficult past.”
