Why museum lessons?
Our Museum's goal is to provide education through fun games, activities and workshops. We wish to provide young learners with enticing historical experience and experiential learning. The Museum's learning activities are tailored for each age group. For playschool children and their parents we have puppet shows and physical activities to spark their interest while for school children, college students and their teachers we provide a range of courses and events that explore our exhibit collection and provide a broader context of Westerplatte story.
We take full advantage of Westerplatte peninsula being an open-air venue – in spring and summer months everone can enjoy the weather, relax on the nearby beach while experiencing real history.
Everyone can learn, discover, create, and experience taking part in the following lessons, among others::
1.What is a museum?
What does a museum do? Where do exhibits come from? Are archeologists like detectives? Can museum work be dangerous? Can you find a hedgehog in a museum? Find out the answers to these and other questions!
2. The history of Westerplatte in pictures
We present to you an alternative take on the history of Westerplatte through the characters of the kamishibai theatre. The show will be followed by a workshop during which you will use your own hands to create an artistic impressions of what you have experienced during the show.
3. Westerplatte – after the battle
Activities for older children on causes and effects of war and the destruction of common cultural heritage. Film screenings, discussion panels, workshops.
4. Little archeologist
Can you find something in the sand? A hands-on experience with little metal detectors for children aged 6-13. Our group of educators will explain what it means to be an archeologist and why artifacts are so important to preserve. Little Archeologist is designed for young children and their parents. Oh, and make sure not to wear your best shoes!
