Discussion of the book by Fr. Dr. Jarosław Wąsowicz

Director of the Museum of the Second World War, Dr. Karol Nawrocki welcomed the author of the book and presented him to the gathered guests.

"You could talk about the biography of Fr. Dr. Jarosław Wąsowicz for a long time. Back in the 1980s, when the Poles were dominated by the communist system, the young Jarosław Wąsowicz who lived in Gdańsk's Zaspa was a Lechia Gdańsk supporter, but also a member of the Fighting Youth Federation who struggled for Poland's freedom and independence. After 1989, he graduated from theology, defended his doctorate in history at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Toruń, was a postulator of the process of beatification of the martyrs of World War II, and he became the chaplain of supporters' circles."

The director mentioned the guest's contribution to the supporters' circles, at the same time recalling of his considerable scientific achievements.

"We are somewhat used to thinking about Fr. Jarosław Wąsowicz as a chaplain of supporters' circles, a former member of the Fighting Youth Federation, a very active publicist, however, he is also a scientist - his doctorate was about youth anti-communist circles, it was published and recognised by the European Solidarity Centre. The historical expertise of Fr. Dr. Jarosław Wąsowicz, regardless of one’s worldview, is beyond doubt. He is an author of several hundred historical, scientific and popular-science articles regarding the persecution of the Catholic clergy in the German Dachau concentration camp. He is an excellent and recognized scientist and a member of the Council of the Museum of the Second World War. "

Fr. Dr. Jarosław Wąsowicz emphasized that in the growing library of both scientific and popular items regarding "Inka" - the book of Danuta Siedzikówna, alias "Inka" (1928-1946). Memory and identity is an interesting exception, a publication that touches upon the phenomenon of this character and the inspiration it presents for contemporaries.

"In the group of heroes, which are the Cursed Soldiers, a special place is occupied by a paramedic of the 5th Vilnius Home Army Brigade, Danuta Siedzikówna "Inka". It is not the great commanders of partisan units and not those who fought hard battles against communists, but this humble girl who was mending the wounded, who died in the communist cells in Gdańsk on Kurkowa street - this young girl is today one of the most expressive icons of the whole generation of youth involved in anti-communist activities after the 1945 and a very expressive icon for contemporary youth."
