DEVELOPMENT OF A DESIGN CONCEPT FOR THE EXHIBITION OF WESTERPLATTE AND THE WAR OF 1939 MUSEUM - BRANCH OF MUSEUM OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR IN GDAŃSK AT WESTERPLATTE

The principal mission of Westerplatte Museum - Branch of Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk is to preserve, maintain, and revitalise the former military architecture complex of Westerplatte. We continually strive to protect the site where the most tragic conflict in history began; we take great care to keep the battlefield authentic and we foster the memory of the struggles of Polish society during World War II.

The launch of the exhibition in Westerplatte Museum will make it possible to present a comprehensive history of the Westerplatte peninsula and the defence of the Military Transit Depot in September 1939. The exhibition will also underline the role of Westerplatte as a meaningful symbol in the history of our country. Westerplatte Museum will feature selected, exceptional artefacts from the body of over 60,000 artefacts found during the ongoing archaeological excavation.

With open-air nature of the entire establishment, the relics of the former Military Transit Depot at Westerplatte will be displayed within their authentic, historical surroundings.
