Reason before force

Although the patriot whose name is included in the title deserved to be one from among the pantheon of national heroes, he remained almost forgotten for entire decades. It was not until the recent few years that historians have been attempting to restore his rightful position in the contemporary history of not only Poland but Europe as well.

The bilingual edition is intended in particular for its foreign recipient, which in itself is related to the international nature of the activities undertaken by Lt. Col. Jan Kowalewski. From its pages the reader may learn about the extraordinary figure whose achievements arouse admiration, with many episodes from Kowalewski’s life constituting an almost already-written material for a film script.
