ABOUT THE COMPETITION

Two-stage limited architectural and urban competition for the conceptual design of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 – Branch of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

 

This is a realization competition which means that the Organiser has provided for cash prizes as well as for inviting the author (Participant of the Competition) of the Winning Entry for negotiations under a single-source procurement procedure in order to provide a service for the completion  of the design work based on the Competition Work.

 

The aim of the Competition is to select  the best concept in terms of architectural design, urban planning, spatial planning and functional-utility aspects for the design solution of the Museum of Westerplatte and the War of 1939 – Branch of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, whose mission is to disseminate knowledge about the heroic defence of Westerplatte in September 1939 and to provide preservation, maintenance and revalorisation of the complex of military architecture located in Westerplatte.

 

The Westerplatte area subject to the Competition, as a symbol of the World War II outbreak - the greatest armed conflict of the 20th century, is of particular importance for the history and collective memory of the Polish Nation.

 

Development Project Outlines for Westerplatte and the War of 1939 Museum – Branch of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk:

Competition is open to all persons and legal entities that meet the requirements detailed in the Competition Regulations.

 

The Contracting Authority specifies the maximum planned total cost of executing the construction works resulting from the project based on the assumptions of the Winning Entry as not exceeding PLN 176,845,000 net.

 

The Competition is organised by the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.
