Lieutenant Colonel Jan Kowalewski Award | Edition #1

Nagroda im. ppłk. Jana KowalewskiegoColonel Jan Kowalewski Award has been devised to distinguish people from Poland and from abroad in accordance with the motto Reason Before Force. Those people will be selected from various fields of knowledge and a wide range of professions and they will be individuals who use the power of their intellect to act for the good of the societies they are members of. The project was initiated in partnership of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk and the Gdańsk University of Technology.

Lieutenant Colonel Jan Kowalewski Award will become a cyclical, international and interdisciplinary event. This year's inauguration of the Award will celebrate the national celebrations of the 80th Anniversary of the Outbreak of World War II.

A diploma, a specially designed statuette, and a  financial reward will be granted to four people representing various fields of knowledge and various professions who, with the power of their intellect and the acquired knowledge and skills, act for the common good in accordance with the Award motto, Reason Over Force.

Higher education institutions, scientific institutes, cultural institutions and members of the Competition Jury may submit their candidates for the Award.

The Awards Gala ceremony will take place on 28th September 2019 at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

The Award will be granted in two categories: "Poland for the World" and "The World for Poland". The categories are further divided into two age subcategories (above 35 years of age and below 35 years of age). The following individuals and institutions will be liable for submission of candidates: members of the Competition Chapter, universities, scientific institutes, cultural institutions and the Polish Army.

"Poland for the World"

This category will include contestants of Polish nationality whose achievements shift the boundaries of cognition and open new research perspectives contributing to the civilisation and cultural progress of our Homeland, shaping its positive image, and strengthening our national pride by taking up the most ambitious challenges of today's world.

"The World for Poland" 

This category will include contestants from outside of Poland, whose innovative activities, achievements and creativity bring benefits to Poland and the Polish nation.
