The book collected the lectures of museologists from various museum institutions, like Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, China, the United States and from other countries. Post-conference articles in a multilateral way present problems faced by cultural institutions which are also places of memory – like ways of building dialogue between the present and the past times, or strengthening national identity through history. In addition to the global perspective, the publication also includes texts focusing on selected local activities – including archaeological work conducted on Westerplatte. The volume is additionally enriched with photo material and a transcript of the discussion between museologists. The second edition of the international conference World Battlefield Museums Forum/Światowe Forum Muzeów Pól Bitewnych will take place in 2020 at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.
