Westerplatte - History and Memory

On 1st September 1939 Westerplatte earned  its place  in the  world history. Today, as a battlefield of international importance visited by thousands of tourists , it is primarily remembered on account of 220 Polish soldiers of the Polish Military Transit Depot who for seven days, outgunned and outnumbered, valiantly defied overwhelmingly superior German forces.

But Westerplatte’s current neglected condition does not give justice to its dramatic history.

When the heroes are no longer among us, Westerplatte needs a broad reconstruction plan to keep telling its tragic and heroic story to future generations.

The short film on Westerplatte is a tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the Polish soldiers and presents revitalisation plans for the former Polish Military Transit Depot.
