"They kept conquering the evil with the good" - the great success of small actors

The premiere of "They kept conquering the evil with good" took place on March 3, 2018 on the stage of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk. The performance was the culmination of the theatrical and educational project "Changing the perspective" and was prepared by a children's group under the direction of Magdalena Gajewska.

The play "They kept conquering the evil with good" came into being on the sole initiative of Magdalena Gajewska, the director of the performance and animator of culture and theatre instructor in the Museum of the Second World War. The performance was the culmination of the theatrical and educational workshops "Changing the perspective", which were held for the last four months. The inspiration for the creation of the play were the historical portrayals of three figures: doctor Janusz Korczak, Irena Sendlerowa and St. Maksymilan Kolbe. It was about them that the Museum decided to tell the story from a child's perspective, recreate the child's sensitivity and the drama of a child during the war. The moving stories of children became the axis of the narrative: in Janusz Korczak's Orphanage, in the Warsaw Ghetto created by the Germans, in the home of Irena Sendlerowa and the Auschwitz concentration camp.

Before the play, the Director of the Museum of the Second World War, dr. Karol Nawrocki, stressed the importance of the work performed by young actors under the watchful eye of the director:

"In reality, all the directors, historians, scientists, bloated volumes of documents and books remain helpless in the face of the story told by the children on this stage - this is the most beautiful thing that can happen, and today's lesson of history will be a lesson that you will remember all your life. You will remember it more than history lessons in a primary or a secondary school, the more so because today's play is the culmination of a certain process. You consulted the performances with your children, your homes lived with these performances, and an enormous contribution to this event was made by Mrs Magdalena Gajewska, whose work I highly value and whom I would like to thank. This great work is a success of Mrs Magdalena Gajewska and I applaud the Director."
