Signing of the Contract for the Execution of the Main Exhibition of the Museum
On 6 May 2015 the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk signed a contract with the Qumak Company, as the consortium leader, for the execution of the main exhibition. Qumak undertook to perform all construction and finishing works, assemble all elements of the main exhibition and install all audiovisual equipment (including audio guides), lighting, and the multimedia management system.
The exhibition shall present the topic of the Second World War from various angles. Great political and military operations shall serve merely as a background for showing the fate of individuals and societies caught up in the greatest international conflict of the 20th century. The Museum will have impressive scenography such as reconstructed alleys, large-format translucent maps, or oversized symbols of the war. The interiors shall be made more dramatic by their varied shapes and the unusual construction and texture of the walls, which will be made of glass, brick, concrete, metal, etc.
The scenography shall provide a background for many unusual exhibits, some of them large-scale, such as two tanks – Soviet T-34/85 and American Sherman Firefly, with the latter weighing 26 tonnes, a G7 torpedo, and a wagon manufactured in the Third Reich, weighing approx. 10 tonnes. Moreover, the Museum will have lots of multimedia, which will give the exhibition a modern form of expression.
“Creating the main exhibition in a unique institution such as the Museum of the Second World War is not only an exciting challenge for us, but also a great responsibility," said Maciej Lubocki, the director of the Multimedia Exhibitions Department. "There are a few reasons why we are proud of having the opportunity to carry out this project. Firstly, it talks about a chapter in history, which is particularly important to us. Secondly, the exhibition shall enable the visitor to really experience the drama of that dark period in the history of mankind. Thirdly, the narration of the exhibition is also noteworthy, as it will take a broad look at the war from many different angles.”
Qumak has extensive experience in executing exhibitions and multimedia expositions. The company portfolio includes the main exhibition and the ‘Fun Department’ of the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk and the exhibit in the revitalised Old Mine (Stara Kopalnia) complex in Wałbrzych.
