Prof. Dr. Hab. Rafał Wnuk Begins Duties as Acting Director of MSWW

As of April 2nd, 2024, Prof. Dr. Hab. Rafał Wnuk has taken over as Acting Director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk. The team now includes Dr. Janusz Marszalec and Engineer Ewa Lidzbarska-Kreft, among others.

 

Rafał Wnuk states that the goal of his new leadership is to create an institution open to diverse opinions. He emphasizes that the museum should become a meeting place of ideas where representatives from all continents can share their discoveries and interpretations.

 

He has authored around one hundred scholarly works on the history of the Second World War and post-war anti-communist resistance in Central and Eastern Europe. Together with Paweł Machcewicz, Piotr M. Majewski, and Janusz Marszalec, he co-developed the main exhibition's script for the Museum of the Second World War and oversaw its execution.

 

The positions of Deputy Directors will be filled by Dr. Janusz Marszalec, a historian and museum professional who served as Deputy Director of the Museum of the Second World War from 2008 to 2017 and was recently associated with the Museum of Gdańsk as Deputy Director, and Engineer Ewa Kreft, an experienced manager responsible for coordinating the construction of the Museum of the Second World War under Paweł Machcewicz's team.

 

The team also welcomes Dr. Jan Szkudliński, a historian, translator, military history expert, and author of several sections of the main exhibition at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, as well as the creator of the script for the new permanent exhibition at the Polish Post Museum in Gdańsk. Additionally, Mateusz Jasik, a museum professional, educator, cultural animator, and historian, has joined the team. Jasik has authored or co-authored over one hundred educational, popularization, and artistic projects.
