Meeting at the State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Like other museums, we try to find new and unknown archival sources. The meeting between staff from our museum and Mukatajevy Danijar, the director of the State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, turned out to be extremely fruitful in this respect.
The meeting took place on 9 October this year, and the museum’s delegation was led by the director Dr. Karol Nawrocki. During the visit to the Kazakh archive, the delegates familiarised themselves with recently declassified documents concerning the history of Poles in Kazakhstan, including those related to their deportation to Kazakhstan in 1936 by the Soviets, the formation of the Army of General Władysław Anders, as well as the post-war repatriation of Poles.
The talks allowed initial arrangements for further cooperation to be made. A project to publish a joint academic publication, as well as academic internships, was also discussed.
The meeting at the State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan was one of many meetings that are planned in archives and museums during trips abroad.
