20 PEOPLE BACK AMONG THE WWII GUIDES
Today, a group of 20 individuals returned to the ranks of certified guides, who had been barred from leading tours of the main exhibition in the fall of 2017 after refusing to sign conditions presented by the then-director of the Museum. One of the contested clauses in the regulations was a provision stating that guides should "refrain from making statements and comments not directly related to the subject of the Museum's exhibition”.
Professor Rafał Wnuk deemed this provision as overly interfering with freedom of speech and ordered its removal from the cooperation regulations with the guides.
After seven years of absence from the Museum, the previously unwelcome guides were officially and warmly welcomed back to the main exhibition by Deputy Director Dr. Janusz Marszalec and Joanna Raftopulos, the organizer of the Museum's first guide training course. All of them received credentials authorizing them to work daily at the exhibition. A significant part of the meeting was also a joint walk through the main exhibition, during which Dr. Janusz Marszalec and Mateusz Jasik, the Museum Director's representative for promotion, discussed with the guides how the exhibition is received by visitors from various parts of the world, the impact its scenography has on guests, and the relevance of its message in light of ongoing conflicts today, even near our borders, making its message more relevant than at the opening on March 23rd, 2017.
We are delighted that all those who hold a guide course certificate can once again be collaborators and ambassadors of our Museum.
