Accessibility features for people with disabilities

Car park
There are 6 parking spaces for people with disabilities – 4 spaces on level G1 and 2 spaces on level G2. It is a paid car park. Please remember to take your parking ticket and place it behind the windscreen after paying. From the car park on level -1, you can take the lift or use the stairs (the staircase is located next to the parking ticket machine). Due to its height, the ticket machine is inaccessible to wheelchair users and people of short stature. No other method of paying for parking is available.Entrances to the building
The main entrance to the building is located on Władysława Bartoszewskiego Square, on the side of Sukiennicza Street. The entrance from level 0 to level -1 can be accessed by stairs. There is also an external lift available, located approximately 10 metres from the stairs.
The second entrance – for people with prams – is located about 100 metres from the main entrance. It is not clearly marked. To find it, walk across Władysław Bartoszewski Square and continue along the Radunia Canal. A footbridge with a slope of about 15 degrees and a length of about 110 metres leads to the entrance. At the end, there is a door to the -1 level.Information Desk
There is an information desk in the entrance hall on level -1. The counter is not lowered. There is a hearing loop.
Next to the information desk, there is a tactile map of the layout of the facilities. Additional maps of this type are located next to the lifts on levels -3, -2, -1 and 0. On all levels, there are floor markings leading to the lifts, and on level -1 – to the information desk, while on level -3 – to the ticket offices and the main exhibition. At the information desk, you can borrow a wheelchair (2 available) or a handy tactile map of the building. All levels can be accessed by lift or stairs.
Stairs
The internal stairs are wooden. There is a handrail on both sides of the stairs along the entire length.Lifts
There are four lifts in the building. Two lifts on the right-hand side of the main entrance lead to the exhibition, cinema, conference rooms, offices, library and restaurant. There is a tactile map opposite the entrance. The buttons in the lift are tactile and marked with Braille. The map is equipped with voice announcements. Two lifts opposite the main entrance at the back of the hall lead to the exhibitions, cinema and conference rooms. The doors open on both sides. The voice announcements are very quiet. The buttons are tactile and marked with Braille.
Toilets
There are toilets accessible to people with disabilities in the building.
There are two toilets on level -3. One toilet is located in front of the entrance to the main exhibition, and the other is in the main exhibition. Toilets accessible to people with disabilities. The doors open outwards and remain open easily.
There is one toilet on level -2 that is accessible to people with disabilities. The door opens outwards and stays open easily.
There are emergency pull cords in the toilets. There are handrails on the walls by the washbasin and toilet.
Assistance dogs
Assistance dogs and guide dogs are welcome. Please make sure you have your assistance dog certificate and vaccination certificate with you.
Guide dogs do not need to wear a muzzle or be kept on a leash.
Water for animals is provided on site.Ticket offices and shop
The counters are not lowered, which makes it difficult to serve wheelchair users and people of short stature.
The ticket offices are not equipped to serve people who communicate exclusively in Polish Sign Language (PJM).Main exhibition and temporary exhibitions
The permanent and temporary exhibitions are located on the same level. There are no vertical barriers between them.
The lighting in the main exhibition is variable. The contrast between some rooms can be very high (transition from darkness to light and vice versa).
Most corridors and passageways are wide. In the sections ‘Road to War’ and ‘September’ there are narrowings that may cause difficulties for wheelchair users.
The exhibition does not have facilities for people with visual, hearing or intellectual impairments. There is no Polish Sign Laguage (PJM) interpreter on site.Offices
The entrance to the offices is located along Stara Stocznia Street. There are no vertical or horizontal barriers. The space is not marked with Braille signs. There is no PJM interpreter on site.Museum Hotel
The entrance along Stara Stocznia Street is always closed. You can call the staff using the intercom.
The reception desk does not have facilities for deaf and visually impaired people. One of the rooms in the hotel is adapted to the needs of wheelchair users. The bathroom is adapted to the needs of people with mobility impairments.
The common areas (kitchen, terrace) are on one level. Some rooms/suites are split-level. The stairs inside the rooms are not marked. The space is not marked with Braille signs.Library
The library is located on level +2.
To get to the library, ask a security guard for assistance. The library is located in an area that is not accessible to visitors. You can get to the library by taking the lift located next to the main entrance on level -1. Magnifying glasses and magnifying films are available for use. The space is not marked with Braille signs.
Cinema
The cinema is located on level -3. Wheelchair users can take seats at the front of the auditorium. The cinema is not equipped with a hearing loop.
Conference room
The conference room is located on level -3, and can also be accessed from level -2. The room is not equipped with a hearing loop. The auditorium is accessible to wheelchair users, who can take seats at the front of the room. There are stairs leading to the stage. Wheelchair users can access it via a side passage provided by service staff.
