EUROPEAN NIGHT OF MUSEUMS 2026

Muzeum II Wojny Światowej, Westerplatte
EUROPEAN NIGHT OF MUSEUMS 2026

This year’s edition of the European Night of Museums at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk will also highlight and promote the Rescued Culture Festival – an event dedicated not only to pre-war and interwar cultural heritage, but also to works created after 1945.

Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk – Main Building

(1 Bartoszewskiego Square)

6:00 pm – midnight

Visitors are invited to explore the permanent exhibition during a special night-time tour. Short theatrical performances by the Museum’s Theatre Group will be performed in selected parts of the exhibition.

7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Fogg Night Concert (Piotr Kosewski and his band)

Nostalgic melodies passed down through generations, poignant lyrics, and eternal memories – these naturally come to mind when thinking of Mieczysław Fogg’s work. The concert will feature both his most beloved hits and lesser-known pieces from his wide repertoire. The songs will be performed by actor, director, and singer, Piotr Kosewski, with a band of outstanding musicians. The audience will surely enjoy new arrangements developed by composer, arranger, and guitarist Paweł Stankiewicz. To improve the reception of Fogg’s songs, the performance will also feature visual projections.

8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Basement Technical Corridor Tours

Tour guests will have a rare opportunity to peek into the museum’s technical infrastructure. The guided tour leads through the ventilation room, the fire pump station, and the chilled water room – known as the museum’s “ice heart” – taking visitors to explore the lowest levels beneath the main exhibition.

  • Westerplatte:

    6:00 pm – 11:00 pm

A series of outdoor attractions are planned, including:

    – education stand with a mobile learning zone featuring games, quizzes, and history workshops

    – re-enactments of first-aid posts with demonstrations of medical equipment

    – display of vintage vehicles

    – open-air cinema screenings at the Visitor Centre

    – traditional field kitchen

    – night tour – a themed exploration of fortifications and defense. This unique historical walk includes an expert introduction at the Visitor Center followed by a nighttime tour of key defensive structures (including the guardhouse and barracks). During this hour-long flashlight expedition, participants will learn about the specifics of the fortification system and the realities of defending the post at night, concluding the route at the Monument to the Defenders of the Coast.
