On September 1st , 1939 the Polish soldiers from The Military Transit Depot at Westerplatte fought in an unequal battle against the attacking German infantry aided by heavy fire form Schleswig-Holstein battleship. That day marked the outbreak of the bloodiest conflict in world history – World War II.
