Gift from the Museum of Occupations in Tallinn to the Museum of the Second World War

On 20 March 2014 Estonia’s President Toomas Hendrik Ilves visited Gdańsk during his official visit to Poland. He laid flowers at the Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers 1970 and visited the “Roads to Freedom” exhibition where he met with the director of the European Centre of Solidarity and the deputy director of the Museum of the Second World War dr hab. Piotr Majewski. President Ilves also relayed a gift to our museum from the Museum of Occupations in Tallinn. It was a suitcase made by an Estonian labour camp prisoner, which he brought back home with him after the war. The suitcase is a reminder of the thousands of people forcibly deported en masse to the Soviet Union during the Second World War.
