‘DESTROY POLAND! MATERIAL LOSSES DURING THE GERMAN OCCUPATION 1939-1945’

On February 28th, a ceremonial opening of the exhibition board ‘Destroy Poland! Material Losses During the German Occupation 1939-1945" took place at the headquarters of the European Parliament in Brussels. The exhibition was prepared by the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

 

 

 

 

 

The exhibition illustrates the extent of Poland's destruction during the German occupation through the prism of material losses. These losses resulted from both German actions during wartime and the implementation of National Socialist ideological principles.

The exhibition also depicts the scale of actions by German occupation authorities aimed at maximizing economic exploitation of occupied Polish territories and other forms of looting carried out by the Germans.

 

The exhibition covers the following topics:

- Destruction of Poland and looting during the German aggression of 1939,

- Destruction of state symbols and Polish identity,

- Plunder and destruction of culture and art,

- German plundering occupational policy,

- German looting and destruction of private property,

- War damages and looting in 1944/1945.

 

Photographs and scans of exhibits mainly come from the collections of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, IPN (Institute of National Remembrance), NAC (National Digital Archives).
