Multimedia Light Show POLAND: FIRST TO FIGHT has been awarded The Drum Award 2019 in the category Event Technology of the Year

Multimedia outdoor light show POLAND: FIRST TO FIGHT, produced in partnership of Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk and Pixel Artworks, has been awarded the prestigious Drum Experience Award 2019 in the category Event Technology of the Year.

The show, projected between 23-25 August 2019 was one of the key events to commemorate the 80. Anniversary national celebrations of the outbreak of WWII.

During the total of 9 shows (3 days, 3 shows each evening), some 6,000 people had an opportunity to attend this unique artistic show, whose scale, used means of expression affecting all senses and historical narrative able to stir the emotions constituted a certain tribute, deep respect and gratitude towards those, who had sacrificed their lives for free Poland.

The show employs modern multimedia techniques, such as 3D video mapping, LED screens, large-format animations, pyrotechnical effects, as well as music and sounds. Thanks to the actors, the show gained dynamism. Detailed choreography allowed them to stress emotions expressed through image and sound on the show’s canvass - the building of the Museum of the Second World War. Thanks to special “Notch” software, the choreographic elements acted out on the scene were intertwined in real time with the projected mappings.

The show’s screenplay was prepared by a team of historians from the Museum of the Second World War. The narrative starts with showing the 19th-century roots of the totalitarian ideas, the genesis of the evil, the ideas of Marks and Engels, Nietzsche’s “Übermensch” philosophy and the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, which changed the history of Europe for the long decades to come and doomed millions of human beings to holocaust. The show depicts also Westerplatte as a symbolic place, a place in Poland and Europe, where the global conflict began. Moreover, it discussed the Soviet invasion of Poland on 17 September 1939. It showed the terror and the extermination policy used by the German and the Soviet occupiers towards the Polish citizens. Polish heroes, people who became moral role models for the post-war generations of Poles, also appear in the script.
